Island dwellers Karnak Seti, the Portuguese metal force hailing from Madeira, are back with a brand new EP, Restos (2024).
After three full-length albums that showcased their ever-evolving sound, which blends thrash aggression with melodic death metal muscle, Karnak Seti haven’t slowed down a bit. Three years after their Dead End (2021) EP, they’re ready to unleash Restos (2024), a four-track sonic assault featuring the current lineup of António Jesus (guitars), Cláudio Aguiar (bass), Luís Erre (vocals), and Luís Freitas (drums).
The EP opens with “I breathe the end” (track 1) a song that thunders off the start line with a heavy barrage and the most wonderfully distorted guitar tone before settling into a bouncing rhythm, pared back guitars and a pleasing two-note accompaniament that reminds me of Nirvana’s “Smells like teen spirit”. This is a strong start.
Title track “Restos” (track 2) — Portuguese for “remains” — is next with its churning opening riff that opens up to an old school thrash gallop. It’s a solid metal song that provides a strong backbone for the release. “In loom” (track 3) is a similar sounding track that has a lot of room to breathe, particularly in the opening thirty seconds and some tasty feedback.
Similar to the opening track, “Down beneath” (track 4) tears off with a pounding gallop, gruff vocals spit out lyrics and guitars sound like they could carve a moshpit through a mountain as the music churns and spills this magnificent noise in a swirling chaos.
Prepare for a potent mix of thrash fury and melodic death metal mastery – Karnak Seti are here to prove once again why they’re one of Madeira’s most enduring and determined metal exports. Good stuff.

Viral Propaganda PR contacted me inviting me to preview Karnak Seti’s forthcoming EP, thank you. I have no connections to either Viral Propaganda PR or Karnak Seti. I’m not being paid to review this, but I did get a free digital copy of the album to review which is pretty cool. Many thanks to Viral Propaganda PR, and to Karnak Seti for continuing to create fresh, exciting new music.
