Regime, Salvation & the Pyre (2023) is the third full-length album from Finland’s alternative/industrial metal project OneFromTheNorth (the project pseudonym of the elusive McKeenan).
The album features a fusion of electronic and metal music. While most of the songs have a black metal vibe, others are more electronic. But each has a bouncy, melodic approach to songwriting. The vocals also vary, with some songs featuring harsh growls while others are clean.
The lyrics of the album deal with a variety of topics, including injustice, fear, disappointment, war, and suffering and other broader societal issues.
Song composing started in 2021 with the first single “Silence And Me” (track 9) released in 2022. It is a good representation of the album as a whole, with harsh vocals and electronic music reminiscent to the club scene.
This album is a fun mix of catchy melodies, 80s-influence electronic music, dark symphonic metal and industrial rhythms. I enjoying the driving tracks such as “A slave to self-deception” (track 6), “Silence and me” (track 9) and “Under the white phosphorus rain” (track 10) which have a very Scandinavian feel. All in all, I decent release.

GrandSounds PR contacted me inviting me to preview OneFromTheNorth’s latest album, thank you. I have no connections to either GrandSounds PR or OneFromTheNorth. I’m not being paid to review this, but I did get a free digital copy of the album to review which is pretty cool. Many thanks to GrandSounds PR, and to OneFromTheNorth for continuing to create fresh, exciting new music.
